Careers Day Carousel

Careers Day was a real hit with year 1. The children enjoyed finding out about a range of different career options. There’s no better way than finding out first hand from experts in the field who kindly offered up their time to come into school and tell us about their roles. We have children who aspire to becoming vets, hairdressers, dog groomers, financial detectives, working in the police and even movie stars. Please remember Mrs Jones when you’re a Hollywood A-lister!

We love our daily mastering number sessions!

These practical sessions are short and snappy and really help us to recall our number facts and subitise.

World Mental Health Day 2025

Year 1 celebrated World Mental Health Day in lots of different ways.

There’s nothing better than litter picking in the fresh air, working as a team and the satisfaction you get at the end, so that’s how we started our day!

Afterwards, we watched a clip from Inside Out 2, finding out about the emotion of fear. Then we put some of our worries in our colour monsters and made a zigzag book of strategies to help us when we are filled with fear.

We had fears that included spiders, monsters, nightmares, dogs, ghosts, deep water, the dark and even high buildings. Luckily, we now feel better equipped to know some of the symptoms of fear and strategies that can help us. One strategy was yoga which we enjoyed taking part in. We hope you enjoy our photos.

Our art gallery in the classroom

In art, Year 1 have been learning about Vincent Van Gogh. We set up an art gallery in the classroom, looking at his different pieces of work. We talked about each painting, thinking about the mark-making techniques used, the colours, shapes and how each painting made us feel and why. We then chose our favourite painting and explained to the class why we liked it. His self-portrait painting was definitely the most popular!

We are Mighty Writers!

We love using Mighty Writer to plan our writing. We used it to help us write instructions on how to brush your teeth and to write a personal recount.  Having this tool really helps us to write with increased independence and confidence. We love writing in year 1!
